Recently, we have been producing a special drumset for Mr Jiří Novák, the drummer with Ondřej Havelka and his Melody Makers. From the beginning, it was a great challenge as the goal was to make a set resembling drums from the 30s but having modern day's dynamics, sensitivity and perfect sound. After several meetings we agreed on the final concept. The original bass drum (28”x12”), which we know from MM's pictures, was to be refurbished, with three plies of beech veneer strengthening the shell and allowing us to restore the perfect rounded shape of the shell. Some of the metal parts were replaced with new ones, some were just refurbished and the original calf skin was put back on the drum. The original wooden hoops were restored, finished with teak veneer and inlayed with pearl wrap. For the whole kit we were using Dellmar White Pearl wrap. The snare drum (13”x6,5”) and the tom-tom (10”x9”) were to be made brand new. The snare has an 8 mm thick cherry solid-block shell which gives the drum crystal clear dynamic tone and really wide tuning range. It is equipped with beech reinforcement rings and a top-class strainer Trick Multi, that provides three different positions for the Puresound snarewires. The drumheads used here were Remo Ambassador Reneissance for the batter side and Evans Hazy 200 for the snare side. 9 mm thick wooden hoops are made of teak/beech/aluminium combination. The aluminium layer allowed us to drill holes for the claws right into the hoop without weakening it. With the claws being held this was, the drummer can play the drum even with his bare hands not risking beating the metal claw. The tom-tom has an 11mm thick walnut shell, which shines especially in mid and lo-mid spectrum. Like the snare, it carries metal parts resembling hardware from the 30s. Wooden hoops were made of teak and beech plies.

The production process of the set and our cooperation with Mr Novák have been a really pleasant era of our company. Today, the kit is already touring with Melody Makers. We are really glad to have only the best reviews from the owner and other musicians as well. We believe that the kit will become a reliable and favoured band member.
